The
forest of Roventino: The forest is situated
close to the mountains, between the villages
Rotella and Force, in the province of Ascoli
Piceno, in the valley of The Aso River, at
a hight between 300 and 600 metres. The forrest
can be enjoyed for its many different kinds
of vegetation: querco-capineto, horn-ostrieto
and many oaks dwaries and carpini. Today the
forest is a part of a modern agricultural
farm with lots of cows. In the past, in the
middle of the forest, there was a castle for
which many battles were fought between Ascoli
and Camerino. Thanks to its easy paths, now
a days the place is an ideal resort for who
loves walking surrounded by a beautiful nature.
Nearby the forest you will find a small village
with a nice church and many cosy restaurants.

The
Ascenzione Mountain: The mountain is to
be found south of Roventino, in the province
of Ascoli Piceno, and its 1103 metres high
peak overlooks the valleys of Tronto and Tesino.
It consists of different types of rocks, and
the northern part is covered by forest and
many kinds of plants and trees, amongst these
chestnuts copses. Because of the many kinds
of trees and plants, the area is now a protected
nature area. Thanks to the peaceful forests,
the fantastic panoramas and the memories of
ancient traditions, this mountain is a very
popular excursion resort. It is known for
its magic atmosphere, not only because of
its natural beauty, but also because of a
tale talking about a young woman from Ascoli
called Polisia who escaped from her father
because of having chosen to convert to Christianity,
now living in the subterranean caves under
the mountain.

La
"Fessa" and the Smerillo Forest:
Close to the village Smerillo, in the council
of Ascoli Piceno, between sediments of gravels
and sand, you will find La Fessa, an open
precipice caused by landslide fracture. The
place is often visited by tourists and students,
because of the peculiar shape of the walls
made by yellow sand. This sand is rich in
fossil materials which are of palaeontological
importance. In the convent in Luogo di Sasso
and in a private collection in Smerillo you
can see some collections of those fossils,
these are very well kept. On the upper part
of the Falcone Mountain you will find the
Smerillo Forest, which is a nature reserve
thanks to its well kept vegetation. As a closing
of your visit to this nature park, we suggest
you to reach the peak of the Falcone Mountain
from which you can enjoy the wonderful panorama.
